Painted Desert – Pastel

Pastel on Sennelier Pastel Paper using primarily Unisons, Ludwig and Rembrandt pastels and based “quite” loosely on a photo taken some years ago in Arizona.  Seems like I’ve been concentrating mostly on pastel landscapes, so I’m determined to get back to what this blog was originally  for……and that was to try different materials and subjects and just have fun.  Haven’t decided what the next one will be, but I promise it will be different!

Enjoy!

Autumn River

Well, it’s been a busy time (and,if you like the holidays as much as I do, it will be even busier!  I  am going try to set aside time each day and get more done…makes me feel more relaxed too in this hectic time.

The painting above is 8 X 10 on Sennelier Pastel Paper using primarily Unisons and Ludwig pastels…..yes, they are my favorite.   There are some touches here and there done with harder pastels, but principally just the two.

I hope you enjoy!

From Pears to Peaks

We’ve had two days of rain, so it felt like time for a fall picture.   8 X 10 using Unisons and Ludwigs on Strathmore paper.   Enjoy!

4 Pears in Pastel

I’ve always loved the shapes of pears.  These were done using Unison and Ludgwig pastels on Strathmore.  Live size: 5.5 X 8.5.    Enjoy!

Midwest Farm

This is the smallest landscape that I’ve completed in pastel (5.5 X8.5),  but the size didn’t stop it from being voted First Place in Lakewood Artist Guild’s September meeting last night.  Although I have received ribbons from paintings that I entered in our Spring and Fall shows with professional judges, there was something really great getting the votes from my fellow guild members!

Back to Dogs…

Don’t you just love them?  Although we own two Shih Tzus, this happens to be a Bearded Collie (Beardie) done on 9 X 12 Wallis Sanded Board using various soft pastels.   Enjoy!

Golden Fields in Pastel

Seems like we should be thinking of fall (my favorite season) about now even though we’re in the 90′s in SoCal.  This painting was completed on an 11 X 14 Strathmore Bristol Vellum using primarily Terry Ludwig, and Unisons.  I love the deep color of these products and their softness.  Not so good for small details, but great for landscapes.  Enjoy!

Afternoon Shadows

Well, it’s been a long time since I got down to business (and fun).  Between traveling, family and pet illnesses, I’ve not been feeling much like painting.  Hopefully, all will be well and I can get back to what I love.   This is an 8-1/2 X 11X1/2 pastel on Canson Mi-Teintes paper using primarily Unisons, Ludwigs and a some I’m not sure about.

Enjoy!

100 Pastel Challenge – No. 66

Well, here’s number 66 in the challenge to do 100 pastels with different colors.  For those who are just seeing the blog for the first time, the object was to design a painting (most people involved designed landscapes), choose a size (mine are 5″ X 7″) and a time limit (mine is 30 minutes).  Then, the fun part was to complete 100 paintings never repeating any particular color scheme.  Some, of course, are similar, but the whole idea was to force yourself to use colors that you wouldn’t normally use, thus breaking through the rut we often find ourselves in.

You can find the other 65 in earlier posts.   Enjoy!
